You might feel that your problems aren't as big or impactful as someone else's problems. I know that I can feel this way too. I know that when you hear someone say what they are dealing with during this crazy that one of the first thoughts that cross your mind is that, “wow their problems are way bigger than mine”. You can feel embarrassed to share about your problems because you are afraid that someone might make fun of them. Unfortunately I know many people who feel this way, including myself. I can feel embarrassed to share that I'm sad that I am missing my freshman year of high school when my brother is missing his senior year of college. I know that his problems seem bigger because senior year is a bigger deal, but I need to recognize that my problems are real too. Even if I do get a chance at a normal school year next year, I am missing out just like him and feel some of the same emotions. I am here to tell you that you are not alone in this feeling.
The movie Inside Out highlights equality and the balance between the emotions happiness and sadness. During this time it is important to understand that it is okay to be sad. Understanding and letting yourself be okay with it will make you feel better. This is shown in the scenes when Joy and Sadness each try to cheer up BingBong. Joy tries to distract BingBong from his worries, but Sadness confronts what is saddening BingBong and after he feels better. There are certain times in your life when you need different emotions. During this challenging time allow yourself to have those emotions.
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand." - Isaiah 41:10 |
